Robyn Hughes

artwork
Growing up on the Central Coast in a large family, Robyn has always felt a great love for nature, wildlife and drawing. Through High School however, she studied science subjects and went on to become a physiotherapist, a career she loved. While working in the field of physiotherapy in Toukley, she began to develop her hobby of drawing and exploring the medium of Soft Pastels. Upon joining the Toukley and Districts Art Society fifteen years ago she was the first to exhibit in this medium.

Currently, Robyn is continuing to specialise in pastels while sometimes painting in acrylics and heat-set oils, and raising three children with her husband. She is also taking on some teaching roles in this medium. She still finds pastels a delightful medium to work with. Although they are less common than oils and watercolours, pastels have an intensity of colour that is both unique and perfectly suited to portraying the ocean, beaches and birdlife that epitomise the beautiful Central Coast where she lives, and beyond.

Robyn has recently won both Second and Third Prize in the Pastel section of the 2009 Morisset Lake Macquarie District Agricultural Show.

Based on a sound understanding of the Principles of Art, Robyn’s artworks pay homage to the beauty of wildlife, plants and our natural environment, in a realistic fashion. Yet we can also see that humble buildings, such as lighthouses and shark towers, somehow live in harmony with their surroundings, and although they are built to be functional, they have a true beauty all of their own.

Perhaps, after all, we humans are capable of living within the landscape, in harmony with our surroundings too….. Robyn can be contacted at:
