For many years I yearned to paint but it was not until I retired that I felt able to pursue painting properly. I’ll never forget my second lesson in watercolour. My teacher refused to let me put brush to paper. I had to drop the paint from above. This was very traumatic for me but it had the desired effect – it freed me up. I learned that my art paper is only that: just paper, and I can tear it up if the painting doesn’t work. Not every painting will be a masterpiece, but hopefully my paintings will always be fresh. Certainly this knowledge helped me to be bolder in exploration of subjects and in the use of colour.

I love to paint. And I find it great therapy. All troubles are forgotten in the process. I paint in watercolour, acrylic and pastel, and my subjects are varied: from landscapes, to seascapes, to flowers and objects in close-up, but water features in most of my paintings. I am always searching for that definitive feeling of the surf in my watercolour work. I won First Prize at the Lake Cargelligo Art Show with a local landscape in pastel and Second Prize for another pastel, in the same Exhibition. I have works hanging in many private collections.
